a river: the opening made in it. The farḍ of a bow and a sandal strap is the slit in which the bowstring and the cord used to fasten the strap are placed.
“And I will surely lead them astray, and fill them with false hopes; and I will command them, so they will slit the ears of cattle; and I will command them, so they will alter the creation of Allah.” Whoever takes Satan as a protector instead of Allah has certainly suffered a manifest loss. (119)
He promises them and fills them with false hopes, but Satan promises them nothing but delusion. (120)
Those—their refuge is Hell, and they will find no escape from it. (121)
النَّهْرِ وَهِيَ الثُّلْمَةُ تَكُونُ فِيهِ، وَفَرْضُ الْقَوْسِ وَالشِّرَاكِ: لِلشَّقِّ الَّذِي يَكُونُ فِيهِ الْوَتَرُ وَالْخَيْطُ الَّذِي يُشَدُّ بِهِ الشِّرَاكُ.
﴿وَلَأُضِلَّنَّهُمْ وَلَأُمَنِّيَنَّهُمْ وَلَآمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُبَتِّكُنَّ آذَانَ الْأَنْعَامِ وَلَآمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ يَتَّخِذِ الشَّيْطَانَ وَلِيًّا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ خَسِرَ خُسْرَانًا مُبِينًا (١١٩) يَعِدُهُمْ وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا (١٢٠) أُولَئِكَ مَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ عَنْهَا مَحِيصًا (١٢١) ﴾
