“When you are among them and lead them in prayer, let one group of them stand in prayer with you, carrying their weapons. When they have prostrated, let them move behind you, and let the other group, who have not yet prayed, come forward and pray with you, taking their precautions and carrying their weapons. The disbelievers wish for you to be heedless of your weapons and belongings, so that they may descend upon you in a single assault. But there is no blame upon you, if you are inconvenienced by rain or are ill, for laying aside your weapons, provided that you remain on your guard. Indeed, Allah has prepared a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers.” (4:102)

His saying, exalted is He: “When you are among them and lead them in prayer”: Al-Kalbi narrated from Abu Salih, from Ibn Abbas (1)

(1) Al-Hakim narrated it with similar wording in al-Mustadrak, 3:30, and declared it authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhari. In al-Durr al-Manthur, 2:664, al-Suyuti attributed it to al-Bazzar, al-Wahidi in Asbab al-Nuzul, p. 172, and al-Tabari, 9:157. Shaykh Shakir said: “Its chain includes al-Nadr Abu Umar, namely Nadr ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Khazzaz, who is weak in hadith. Abu Nuaym was asked about him and replied: ‘He is not worth this,’ while picking up something from the ground. He used to come and sit with al-Humani, and whatever he was asked, he would say: ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas.’”

﴿وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلَاةَ فَلْتَقُمْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ مَعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوا أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ فَإِذَا سَجَدُوا فَلْيَكُونُوا مِنْ وَرَائِكُمْ وَلْتَأْتِ طَائِفَةٌ أُخْرَى لَمْ يُصَلُّوا فَلْيُصَلُّوا مَعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوا حِذْرَهُمْ وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ وَدَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ تَغْفُلُونَ عَنْ أَسْلِحَتِكُمْ وَأَمْتِعَتِكُمْ فَيَمِيلُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَيْلَةً وَاحِدَةً وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنْ كَانَ بِكُمْ أَذًى مِنْ مَطَرٍ أَوْ كُنْتُمْ مَرْضَى أَنْ تَضَعُوا أَسْلِحَتَكُمْ وَخُذُوا حِذْرَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَعَدَّ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُهِينًا (١٠٢) ﴾ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: ﴿وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلَاةَ﴾ رَوَى الْكَلْبِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ (١)
