from among their brethren whom they left alive in this world, following the paths of faith and jihad, because they know that when those brethren are martyred, join them, and attain the honor they themselves have attained, they will rejoice at that: “No fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.”
“They rejoice in a blessing and bounty from Allah, and that Allah does not allow the reward of the believers to be lost. Those who answered Allah and the Messenger after they had been wounded—for those among them who did good and feared Allah there is a tremendous reward.” (171–172)
“They rejoice in a blessing and bounty from Allah, and that Allah”: that is, and in the fact that Allah. Al-Kisa'i recited it with a kasrah on the initial hamzah, treating it as a new sentence.
“Allah does not allow the reward of the believers to be lost.” Abu al-Hasan al-Sarakhsi informed us; Zahir ibn Ahmad informed us; Abu Ishaq al-Hashimi related to us; Abu Mus'ab informed us, from Malik, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj, from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Allah has guaranteed for whoever strives in His cause—leaving his home for no reason but jihad in His cause and affirmation of His word—that He will either admit him into Paradise or return him to the home from which he departed, along with the reward and spoils he has gained.” (1)
And he said: “By Him in whose Hand is my soul, no one is wounded in the way of Allah—and Allah knows best who is wounded in His way—except that he will come on the Day of Resurrection with his wound gushing blood: its color will be the color of blood, but its fragrance will be the fragrance of musk.” (2)
Imam Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Qadi informed us; Abu Tahir Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Mahmish al-Ziyadi informed us; Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Qattan informed us; Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Darabajirdi informed us; Abdullah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' informed us; Sa'id informed us; Muhammad ibn Ajlan related to me, from al-Qa'qa' ibn Hakim, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“The martyr feels no pain from being killed except as one of you feels the pain of a pinch.” (3)
