“Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty. Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the blessings.” (7–8)
“Then you will surely see it”: by direct sight, “with the eye of certainty.” “Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the blessings.” Muqatil said: This refers to the disbelievers of Mecca, who lived in comfort and prosperity in this world. On the Day of Resurrection, they will be questioned about their gratitude for the blessings they enjoyed, for they did not give thanks to the Lord of blessings, having worshipped others besides Him. They will then be punished for abandoning gratitude. This is the view of al-Hasan.
It is reported from Ibn Masʿud, traced back to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, regarding the words, “Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the blessings,” that he said: “Security and health.” (1)
Qatadah said: Allah will question every person who has received a blessing concerning that with which He blessed him. (2)

Abu Muhammad ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Samad al-Jawzajani informed us; Abu al-Qasim ʿAli ibn Ahmad al-Khuzaʿi informed us; Abu Saʿid al-Haytham ibn Kulayb al-Shashi informed us; Abu ʿIsa al-Tirmidhi informed us; Muhammad ibn Ismaʿil informed us; Adam ibn Abi Iyas related to us; Shayban Abu Muʿawiyah related to us; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr related to us from Abu Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, went out at an hour when he would not usually go out and when no one would ordinarily meet him. Abu Bakr came to him, and he asked, “What has brought you out, Abu Bakr?” He replied, “I came out to meet the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to look upon his face, and to greet him.” Before long, ʿUmar came, and he asked, “What has brought you out, ʿUmar?” He replied, “Hunger.”
