Tafsir al-BaghawiAl-Baghawi

“And enter My Paradise.” (30)

“And enter My Paradise.” Some of those who interpret by spiritual allusion said: “O soul at peace with this world, return to Allah by forsaking it; and returning to Allah is to follow the path of the Hereafter.”

Sa‘id ibn Jubayr said: Ibn ‘Abbas—may Allah be pleased with him—died in al-Ta’if, and I attended his funeral. A bird unlike any we had ever seen in appearance came and entered his bier; then we did not see it emerge from it. (1) When he was buried, this verse was recited at the edge of the grave, and we did not know who had recited it: “O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing to Him. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise.” (2) (3)

(1) In manuscript B: “he did not see.” (2) In manuscript B: “he did not see.” (3) Al-Suyuti attributed it in al-Durr al-Manthur, 8:515, to Ibn Abi Hatim and al-Tabarani.
