Tafsir al-BaghawiAl-Baghawi

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, whenever Gabriel descended upon him (1) with the Revelation, would sometimes move his tongue and lips, finding it difficult; and this could be seen in him. So Allah, exalted is He, revealed the verse in “I swear by the Day of Resurrection”: “Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it.” (2)

“Indeed, it is for Us to gather it and recite it. (17) So when We recite it, follow its recitation. (18) Then indeed, it is for Us to make it clear.” (19)

(1) Omitted from manuscript B. (2) Reported by al-Bukhari in al-Tafsir, “Commentary on Surat al-Qiyamah,” chapter: “Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation,” 8:682; and by Muslim in al-Salah, chapter on listening attentively to the recitation, no. 448, 1:330.
