Al-Kalbi said: “The ṣaʿūd is a smooth rock in the Fire which he will be compelled to climb. He will not be allowed to catch his breath as he climbs it; he will be pulled from before by chains of iron and struck from behind with iron maces. He will climb it over forty years, and when he reaches its summit, he will be cast down to its bottom. Then he will again be compelled to climb it, pulled from before and struck from behind. Such will be his condition forever and ever.” (3)

In al-Kafi al-Shaf, p. 179, al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar attributed it to al-Bazzar, al-Tabarani in al-Awsat, al-Bayhaqi in al-Shu'ab, al-Tabari, and Ibn Abi Hatim, all through Sharik ibn Ammar al-Duhani, from Atiyyah, from Abu Sa'id, as a marfu report. Al-Bazzar said: “We know of no one who narrated it as a marfu report except Sharik,” and al-Tabarani stated this decisively. Al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi also narrated it through Ibn Uyaynah, from Umarah, as a marfu report. Al-Haythami said in Majma al-Zawa'id, 7:131: “I say: Abu Dawud narrated it, though not in this wording; al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Awsat, and its chain includes Atiyyah, who is weak.”

وَإِذَا رَفَعَهَا عَادَتْ] (١) " (٢)
وَقَالَ الْكَلْبِيُّ: "الصَّعُودُ" صَخْرَةٌ مَلْسَاءُ فِي النَّارِ يُكَلَّفُ أَنْ يَصْعَدَهَا لَا يُتْرَكُ أَنْ يَتَنَفَّسَ فِي صُعُودِهِ، وَيُجْذَبُ مِنْ أَمَامِهِ بِسَلَاسِلَ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ، وَيُضْرَبُ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ بِمَقَامِعَ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ، فَيَصْعَدُهَا فِي أَرْبَعِينَ عَامًا فَإِذَا بَلَغَ ذِرْوَتَهَا أُحْدِرَ إِلَى أَسْفَلِهَا ثُمَّ يُكَلَّفُ أَنْ يَصْعَدَهَا وَيُجْذَبُ مِنْ أَمَامِهِ وَيُضْرَبُ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ فَذَلِكَ دَأْبُهُ أَبَدًا [أَبَدًا] (٣) .

(٢) أخرجه عبد الرزاق في التفسير: ٢ / ٣٣١. وعزاه الحافظ ابن حجر في الكافي الشاف ص: (١٧٩) للبزار والطبراني في الأوسط والبيهقي في الشعب والطبري وابن أبي حاتم. كلهم من طريق شريك بن عمار الدهني عن عطية عن أبي سعيد مرفوعا. قال البزار: لا نعلمه رفعه إلا شريك، وبه جزم الطبراني. ورواه البزار والبيهقي من رواية ابن عيينة عن عمارة مرفوعا. قال الهيثمي في المجمع: ٧ / ١٣١: "قلت: ورواه أبو داود بغير سياقه - رواه الطبراني في الأوسط، وفيه عطية وهو ضعيف".
