“You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their kindred. It is they in whose hearts He has inscribed faith and whom He has strengthened with a spirit from Him. He will admit them into gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. They are the party of Allah. Indeed, it is the party of Allah who will prosper.” (22)
His saying, exalted is He: “You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their kindred”—to the end of the verse.
He informs that the believers’ faith is corrupted by showing affection to the disbelievers, and that whoever is a believer does not take as an ally one who disbelieves, even if he is one of his own kindred.
It was said that this was revealed concerning Hatib ibn Abi Balta‘ah when he wrote to the people of Mecca. This will come in Surah al-Mumtahanah (1), Allah willing.
