“He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days; then He rose over the Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what emerges from it, what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein. And He is with you wherever you may be; and Allah sees all that you do. (4) To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and to Allah all matters are returned. (5) He causes the night to pass into the day and causes the day to pass into the night; and He knows well what is within hearts. (6) Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and spend from that over which He has made you successors. Those of you who believe and spend shall have a great reward.” (7)

“Believe in Allah and His Messenger”: this addresses the disbelievers of Mecca. “And spend from that over which He has made you successors,” that is, made you its owners: meaning the wealth that had been in the hands of others, whom He destroyed, and then gave it to Quraysh. Thus, with respect to that wealth, they were successors to those who had passed before them. “Those of you who believe and spend shall have a great reward.”

﴿هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَمَا يَنْزِلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَا وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ (٤) لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الْأُمُورُ (٥) يُولِجُ اللَّيْلَ فِي النَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ النَّهَارَ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَهُوَ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ (٦) آمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَأَنْفِقُوا مِمَّا جَعَلَكُمْ مُسْتَخْلَفِينَ فِيهِ فَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَأَنْفَقُوا لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ (٧) ﴾ ﴿هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَمَا يَنْزِلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَا وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الْأُمُورُ يُولِجُ اللَّيْلَ فِي النَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ النَّهَارَ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَهُوَ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ﴾ ﴿آمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ﴾ يُخَاطِبُ كُفَّارَ مَكَّةَ ﴿وَأَنْفِقُوا مِمَّا جَعَلَكُمْ مُسْتَخْلَفِينَ فِيهِ﴾ مُمَلَّكِينَ فِيهِ: يَعْنِي: الْمَالَ الَّذِي كَانَ بِيَدِ غَيْرِهِمْ فَأَهْلَكَهُمْ وَأَعْطَاهُ قُرَيْشًا فَكَانُوا فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَالِ خُلَفَاءَ عَمَّنْ مَضَوْا. ﴿فَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَأَنْفَقُوا لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ﴾
