‘Abd al-Wahid ibn Ahmad al-Mulayhi informed us; Ahmad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Nu‘aymi informed us; Muhammad ibn Yusuf informed us; Muhammad ibn Isma‘il narrated to us; Qutaybah ibn Sa‘id narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us; ‘Umarah ibn al-Qa‘qa‘ informed us from Abu Zur‘ah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There are two words light upon the tongue, weighty on the Scale, and beloved to the Most Merciful: ‘Glory and praise be to Allah; glory be to Allah, the Magnificent.’” (1)
Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Julafri informed us; Abu al-Qasim Tammam ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Razi narrated to me in Damascus; ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Bazzaz, Ahmad ibn Sulayman ibn Hadhlam, and Ibn Rashid narrated to us, saying: Bakkar ibn Qutaybah informed us; Rawh ibn ‘Ubadah narrated to us; Hajjaj al-Sawwaf narrated to us from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever says, ‘Glory be to Allah, the Magnificent, and praise be to Him,’ will have a date palm planted for him in Paradise.” (2)
‘Abd al-Wahid al-Mulayhi informed us, saying: Abu Mansur Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Sam‘an informed us; Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar al-Rayani narrated to us; Humayd ibn Zanjawayh narrated to us; Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la narrated to us; Ibn Wahb informed us; al-Sari ibn Yahya informed me that Shuja‘ narrated to him from Abu Taybah, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ud, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Whoever recites Surat al-Waqi‘ah every night will never be afflicted by poverty.” (3) Abu Taybah would never neglect its recitation.
(1) Reported by al-Bukhari in al-Ayman wa al-Nudhur, chapter: “If one says, ‘By Allah, I will not speak today,’” 11:566; by Muslim in al-Dhikr wa al-Du'a, chapter on the merit of tahlil, tasbih, and supplication, no. 2694, 4:2072; and by the compiler of Sharh al-Sunnah, 5:42.
(2) Reported by al-Tirmidhi in al-Da'awat, chapter on the merit of saying “Subhan Allah,” 4:433. He said: “This hadith is hasan gharib sahih; we know it only through the narration of Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir.” It was authenticated by Ibn Hibban in Mawarid al-Zam'an, no. 2335, p. 580, and by al-Hakim, 1:501-502, with al-Dhahabi concurring. Al-Bazzar also narrated it from Abd Allah ibn Amr with a good chain of transmission. See Majma al-Zawa'id, 1:94.
(3) Reported by al-Harith ibn Abi Usamah. Al-Busiri said: “Al-Harith narrated it from al-Abbas ibn al-Fadl, who is weak. Abu Ya'la also narrated it through a chain whose narrators are trustworthy.” See al-Matalib al-Aliyah, 3:383, with the editor's marginal note. Al-Kafi al-Shaf, p. 163, states: “They then differed over the precise form of the name Abu Zabyah. Al-Daraqutni records it as Abu Taybah, spelling it with an unpointed t, followed by y and then b, and identifies him as Isa ibn Sulayman al-Jurjani; moreover, his narration from Ibn Masud is disconnected. This is supported by the fact that al-Tha'labi reported it through Abu Bakr al-Attardi, from al-Sari, from Shuja', from Abu Taybah al-Jurjani. Al-Bayhaqi records it as Abu Zabyah, with a dotted initial letter followed by b and then y, and considers him unknown. Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: ‘This is a munkar (denounced) hadith, and I do not know Shuja'.’”
