“Indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and to Us is the final return. On the Day the earth splits open over them and they emerge swiftly—that is a gathering easy for Us. We know best what they say, and you are not a tyrant over them. So remind, by the Quran, whoever fears My warning.” (43–45)
“On the Day the earth splits open over them and they emerge swiftly”: that is, they will come forth in haste. “That is a gathering easy for Us”: their gathering before Us is easy.
“We know best what they say”: that is, what the disbelievers of Mecca say in denying you. “And you are not a tyrant over them”: you have not been given authority to compel them to embrace Islam; rather, you were sent only as a reminder. “So remind, by the Quran, whoever fears My warning”: that is, the punishment with which I have threatened those who disobey Me.
Ibn Abbas said: They said, “O Messenger of Allah, if only you would warn us.” Then the verse was revealed: “So remind, by the Quran, whoever fears My warning.” (1)
