and married her. Thabit then said to him, “Abu Hamzah, what was her bridal gift?” He replied, “Her own person: he set her free and married her.”

When they were on the road, Umm Sulaym prepared her for him and brought her to him at night. Thus, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, awoke as a bridegroom. He said, “Whoever has anything should bring it.” He spread out a leather mat, and one man began bringing dates while another brought clarified butter. He said: 131/a—I think he also mentioned parched barley meal. They mixed it into hays, and that was the wedding feast of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. (1)

Then, on the day of Khaybar, we came upon domestic donkeys and slaughtered them. When the pots began to boil, the announcer of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called out: ‘Turn over the pots, and do not eat anything of the flesh of domestic donkeys.’”

Abd Allah said: “We said, ‘The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, only forbade them because the one-fifth share had not been taken from them.’ Others said, ‘Rather, he prohibited them categorically.’ I asked Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, and he said, ‘He prohibited them categorically.’” (2)

She said, “I wanted to kill you.” He said, “Allah would not allow you to overpower me in that,” or he said, “overpower me.”

They said, “Shall we not kill her?” He said, “No.” Anas said: “I continued to recognize its effects on the palate of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.” (3)

Muhammad ibn Isma‘il said: Yunus related from al-Zuhri, who said: Urwah said that Aishah said: During the illness in which he died, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would say, “Aishah, I have continued to feel the pain of the food that I ate at Khaybar, and now is the time when I feel my aorta being severed because of that poison.” (4)
