The Hour is more calamitous and more bitter.” (1)

Regarding His words, exalted is He, “Yet its signs have already come”: that is, its indications and signs. The singular is shart, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was among the signs of the Hour.

Some of ⦗127/b⦘ the people said, “He heard what the man said but disliked it.” Others said, “Rather, he did not hear him.” When he had finished speaking, he said, “Where is the one who asked about the Hour?” He said, “Here I am, O Messenger of

(1) Reported by al-Hakim, 4:320-321, who said: “If Ma'mar ibn Rashid heard it from al-Maqburi, then the hadith is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, although they did not include it.” The compiler also cites it in Sharh al-Sunnah, 14:224-225. Its editor said: “Its chain of transmission is weak because the intermediary between Ma'mar ibn Rashid and Sa'id al-Maqburi is unknown.” (2) Reported by al-Bukhari, Book of Quranic Exegesis, Exegesis of Surat al-Nazi'at, 8:691; Muslim, Book of Tribulations, chapter: The Nearness of the Hour, no. 2950, 4:2268; and cited by the compiler in Sharh al-Sunnah, 15:98.
