for her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. So seek the religious woman—may you prosper!” (1)
It was also said that the verse means sending ahead one’s children who die young.
Abu al-Hasan al-Sarakhsi informed us; Zahir ibn Ahmad informed us; Abu Ishaq al-Hashimi informed us; Abu Mus‘ab informed us, from Malik, from Ibn Shihab ⦗36/b⦘, from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “No Muslim whose three children die will be touched by the Fire, except for the fulfillment of the oath.” (2)
Al-Kalbi and al-Suddi said: “And send forth for yourselves” means good deeds and righteous actions, as indicated by the context of the verse: “Fear Allah and know that you will meet Him”—that is, you will return to Him, and He will recompense you for your deeds—“and give glad tidings to the believers.”
“Do not make your oath by Allah an excuse against being righteous, fearing Him, and reconciling people. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” (224)
