Abu Sa'id al-Shurayhi informed us; Abu Ishaq al-Tha'labi informed us; Ibn Fanjawayh informed me; Ibn Abi Shaybah related to us; Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Salim al-Hamdani related to us; Abu al-Azhar Ahmad ibn al-Azhar al-Naysaburi related to us; Abd al-Razzaq related to us; Ma'mar related to us from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, from al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I do not know whether Tubba' was a prophet or not.” (1)
“And those before them” refers to the disbelieving nations. “We destroyed them; indeed, they were guilty of sin.”
“We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in play. We created them only in truth, but most of them do not know.” (38–39)

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الشَّرِيحِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الثَّعْلَبِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ فَنْجَوَيْهِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سَالِمٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَزْهَرِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْأَزْهَرِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنِ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: "مَا أَدْرِي تُبَّعٌ نَبِيًّا كَانَ أَوْ غَيْرَ نَبِيٍّ" (١) . ﴿وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ﴾ مِنَ الْأُمَمِ الْكَافِرَةِ. ﴿أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ﴾ .
﴿وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِبِينَ (٣٨) مَا خَلَقْنَاهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ (٣٩) ﴾
