Tafsir al-BaghawiAl-Baghawi

‘Abd al-Wahid al-Mulayhi informed us; Ahmad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Nu‘aymi informed us; Muhammad ibn Yusuf informed us; Muhammad ibn Isma‘il related to us; Adam related to us; Shayban related to us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from ‘Alqamah, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ud, who said:

A rabbi came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, “O Muhammad, we find that Allah places the heavens upon one finger, the earths upon one finger, the trees upon one finger, the water and the soil upon one finger, and the rest of creation upon one finger. Then He says: ‘I am the King.’” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, laughed until his molars became visible, affirming what the rabbi had said. He then recited: “They have not duly appraised Allah, and the whole earth will be within His grasp on the Day of Resurrection.” (1)

Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj also transmitted it from Ahmad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Yunus, from Fudayl ibn ‘Iyad, from Mansur, and stated: “The mountains and the trees are upon one finger.” He added: “Then He shakes them, saying: ‘I am the King; I am Allah.’” (2)

Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Shurayhi informed us; Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Tha‘labi informed us; al-Husayn ibn Fanjawayh informed me; ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab related to us; ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl related to us; Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah related to us; Abu Usamah related to us, from ‘Umar ibn Hamzah, from Salim ibn ‘Abd Allah, who said: ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar informed me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will fold up the heavens and take them in His right hand. Then He will say: ‘I am the King. Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant?’ Then He will fold up the earths and take them in His left hand. Then He will say: ‘I am the King. Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant?’”

This is an authentic hadith, transmitted by Muslim from Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah. (3)

Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Tawbah al-Kushmihani informed us; Abu Tahir Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Harith related to us; Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub al-Kisa’i related to us; ‘Abd Allah ibn Mahmud informed us; Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Khallal informed us; ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak related to us, from Yunus, from al-Zuhri, who said: Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib related to me, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will grasp the earth and fold up the heaven in His right hand. Then He will say: ‘I am the King. Where are the kings of the earth?’” (4)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ الْمَلِيحِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ النَّعِيمِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: جَاءَ حَبْرٌ مِنَ الْأَحْبَارِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: "يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّا نَجِدُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلُ السموات عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ وَالْأَرْضِينَ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ، وَالشَّجَرَ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ، وَالْمَاءَ وَالثَّرَى عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ، وَسَائِرَ الْخَلْقِ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ، فَيَقُولُ: أَنَا الْمَلِكُ، فَضَحِكَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ تَصْدِيقًا لِقَوْلِ الْحَبْرِ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: "وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَالْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ" (١) . وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يُونُسَ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، وَقَالَ: "وَالْجِبَالُ وَالشَّجَرُ عَلَى إِصْبَعٍ، وَقَالَ: ثُمَّ يَهُزُّهُنَّ هَزًّا، فَيَقُولُ: (أَنَا الْمَلِكُ أَنَا اللَّهُ) " (٢) . أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الشُّرَيْحِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الثَّعْلَبِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ فَنْجَوَيْهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: "يَطْوِي اللَّهُ السموات يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ يَأْخُذُهُنَّ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: أَنَا الْمَلِكُ أَيْنَ الْجَبَّارُونَ أَيْنَ الْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ؟ ثُمَّ يَطْوِي الْأَرْضِينَ ثُمَّ يَأْخُذُهُنَّ بِشِمَالِهِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: أَنَا الْمَلِكُ أَيْنَ الْجَبَّارُونَ أَيْنَ الْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ"، هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ أُخْرِجُهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ (٣) . أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي تَوْبَةَ الْكُشْمِيهِنِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْكِسَائِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَحْمُودٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْخَلَّالُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الزَّهْرِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: "يَقْبِضُ اللَّهُ الْأَرْضَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيَطْوِي السَّمَاءَ بِيَمِينِهِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: أَنَا الْمَلِكُ أَيْنَ مُلُوكُ الْأَرْضِ" (٤) .
