“Ask the Children of Israel how many clear signs We gave them. And whoever alters Allah’s favor after it has come to him—then indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.” (211)
Regarding His saying, “Ask the Children of Israel”: that is, O Muhammad, ask the Jews of Madinah, “How many clear signs We gave them”: that is, We gave their forefathers and predecessors clear proofs of the prophethood of Moses, peace be upon him, such as the staff, the white hand, and the splitting of
﴿سَلْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كَمْ آتَيْنَاهُمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ بَيِّنَةٍ وَمَنْ يُبَدِّلْ نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ (٢١١) ﴾
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: ﴿سَلْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ﴾ أَيْ سَلْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ يَهُودَ الْمَدِينَةِ ﴿كَمْ آتَيْنَاهُمْ﴾ أَعْطَيْنَا آبَاءَهُمْ وَأَسْلَافَهُمْ ﴿مِنْ آيَةٍ بَيِّنَةٍ﴾ دَلَالَةٍ وَاضِحَةٍ عَلَى نُبُوَّةِ مُوسَى ﵇، مِثْلَ الْعَصَا وَالْيَدِ الْبَيْضَاءِ، وَفَلْقِ
