“Set forth for them the example of the people of the town, when the messengers came to it.” (13)
His words, exalted is He: “Set forth for them the example of the people of the town”—that is, recount to them an example resembling their own condition, from the story of the people of the town, which was Antioch: “when the messengers came to it”—that is, the messengers of Jesus, peace be upon him.
﴿وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلًا أَصْحَابَ الْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَاءَهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ (١٣) ﴾
قَوْلُهُ ﷿: ﴿وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلًا أَصْحَابَ الْقَرْيَةِ﴾ يَعْنِي: اذْكُرْ لَهُمْ شَبَهًا مِثْلَ حَالِهِمْ مِنْ قِصَّةِ أَصْحَابِ الْقَرْيَةِ وَهِيَ أَنْطَاكِيَةُ، ﴿إِذْ جَاءَهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي: رُسُلُ عِيسَى ﵊.
