—meaning, the Jews and the Christians. ⦗92a⦘ “Yet when a warner came to them”—Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him—“it only increased them in aversion”: that is, his coming only increased their remoteness from guidance.
“Out of arrogance in the land and evil plotting. But evil plotting encompasses none but its own people. So are they waiting for anything other than the way of the former peoples? You will never find any change in Allah’s way, nor will you ever find any alteration in Allah’s way. Have they not traveled through the land and seen what was the end of those before them, though they were greater than them in power? Nothing in the heavens or on earth can frustrate Allah. Indeed, He is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.” (43–44)
يَعْنِي: مِنَ اليهود والنصارى، ٩٢/أ ﴿فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ نَذِيرٌ﴾ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ، ﴿مَا زَادَهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا﴾ أَيْ: مَا زَادَهُمْ مَجِيئُهُ إِلَّا تَبَاعُدًا عَنِ الْهُدَى.
﴿اسْتِكْبَارًا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَكْرَ السَّيِّئِ وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ فَهَلْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَّا سُنَّةَ الْأَوَّلِينَ فَلَنْ تَجِدَ لِسُنَّةِ اللَّهِ تَبْدِيلًا وَلَنْ تَجِدَ لِسُنَّةِ اللَّهِ تَحْوِيلًا (٤٣) أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ وَكَانُوا أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُعْجِزَهُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَلَا فِي الْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلِيمًا قَدِيرًا (٤٤) ﴾
