“You can only warn those who fear”—that is, who are afraid of—“their Lord though they do not see Him.” Al-Akhfash said: Its meaning is: Your warning benefits only those who fear their Lord though they do not see Him. “And establish the prayer. Whoever purifies himself,” that is, reforms himself and does righteous deeds, “does so only for his own benefit”: its reward belongs to him. “And to Allah is the final return.”
