“Then, on that Day, the excuse of those who did wrong will not benefit them.”
“Then, on that Day, the excuse of those who did wrong will not benefit them, nor will they be asked to make amends.” (57) “And We have certainly set forth for mankind every kind of parable in this Quran. Yet if you bring them a sign, those who disbelieve will surely say, ‘You are nothing but falsifiers.’” (58) “Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know.” (59) “So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is true. And do not let those who lack certainty unsettle you.” (60)
“Then, on that Day, the excuse of those who did wrong will not benefit them”: that is, their plea. “Nor will they be asked to make amends”: they will not be asked, in the Hereafter, to make amends and return.
The scholars of Kufah recited “will not benefit” with the masculine form here and in Surat Ghafir; Nafiʿ agreed with them in Surat Ghafir. (1) The rest recited it with the feminine form in both places.
“And We have certainly set forth for mankind every kind of parable in this Quran. Yet if you bring them a sign, those who disbelieve will surely say, ‘You are nothing but falsifiers’”: that is, you are upon nothing but falsehood.
“Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know”: who do not know Allah’s oneness.
“So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is true”: concerning His granting you victory and making you prevail over your enemy. “And do not let those who lack certainty unsettle you”: do not let them lead you into foolishness. Its meaning is: do not let those who lack certainty induce you to act ignorantly and follow them in error.
It was also said: Let not those who lack certainty belittle your judgment and forbearance—those who do not have certainty regarding the resurrection and the reckoning.
