Tafsir al-BaghawiAl-Baghawi

that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever says, ‘Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him,’ one hundred times each day, his sins will be erased, even if they are like the foam of the sea.” (1)

Imam Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Qadi informed us; Abu Tahir Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Mahmish al-Ziyadi informed us; Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Umar ibn Hafs al-Tajir informed us; al-Sari ibn Khuzaymah al-Abyurdi narrated to us; al-Mualla ibn Sad informed us; Abd al-Aziz ibn al-Mukhtar informed us, from Suhayl, from Sumayy, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever says, when morning comes and when evening comes, ‘Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him,’ one hundred times, no one will come on the Day of Resurrection with anything better than what he has brought, except one who said the same as he said or said more.” (2)

Abd al-Wahid ibn Ahmad al-Mulayhi informed us; Ahmad ibn Abd Allah al-Na'imi informed us; Muhammad ibn Yusuf informed us; Muhammad ibn Ismail informed us; Qutaybah ibn Said informed us; Muhammad ibn Fudayl informed us; Umarah ibn al-Qaqa informed us, from Abu Zurah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Two phrases are light upon the tongue, weighty in the Scale, and beloved to the Most Merciful: ‘Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him; glory be to Allah, the Magnificent.’” (3)

Abd al-Wahid al-Mulayhi informed us; Abu Mansur Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Saman informed us; Abu Jafar Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Rayani informed us; Humayd ibn Zanjawayh informed us; Ali ibn al-Madini informed us; Ibn Uyaynah informed us, from Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman, the freedman of the family of Talhah, who said: “I heard Kurayb Abu Rushdayn ⦗70/b⦘ relating from Ibn Abbas, from Juwayriyah bint al-Harith ibn Abi Dirar, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out from her one morning. Her name had been Barrah, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed it and named her Juwayriyah, for he disliked people saying, ‘He departed from Piety.’ He went out while she was in the mosque, then returned after the day had advanced and said, ‘Have you remained in this place since I left you?’ She replied, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘After leaving you, I said four phrases three times; were they weighed against the words you have spoken, they would outweigh them: “Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him, as numerous as His creation, to the extent of His pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne, and equal to the ink of His words.”’” (5)

“He brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living, and He gives life to the earth after its death. Thus too will you be brought forth.” (19)

His saying, Exalted is He: “He brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living, and He gives life to the earth after its death. Thus too will you be brought forth.”
