Surah al-Naml
Meccan
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
“Ta-Sin. These are the verses of the Quran and of a clear Book: guidance and glad tidings for the believers—those who establish the prayer, give zakah, and are certain of the Hereafter. Indeed, as for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have made their deeds seem fair to them, so they wander blindly. They are the ones for whom there will be an evil punishment, and in the Hereafter they will be the greatest losers.”
Regarding “Ta-Sin,” Ibn Abbas said: “It is one of the names of Allah, Most High.” Discussion of the letters of the alphabet has preceded. (1)
“These are the verses of the Quran”: that is, these are the verses of the Quran. “And of a clear Book”: that is, the verses of a clear Book. “Guidance and glad tidings for the believers”: meaning, it is guidance away from misguidance and glad tidings of Paradise for the believers who affirm it. “Those who establish the prayer, give zakah, and are certain of the Hereafter.” (2)
“Indeed, as for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have made their evil deeds seem fair to them,” until they came to regard them as good; “so they wander blindly”: that is, they move about in them, bewildered. “They are the ones for whom there will be an evil punishment”: severe punishment in this world through killing and captivity at Badr. “And in the Hereafter they will be the greatest losers,” because they have lost themselves and their families and will enter the Fire.
