It is related in the account (1) that Moses returned to Egypt wearing a woolen cloak, carrying a staff, with a basket of provisions hanging from its top. He entered his own home and told Aaron that Allah had sent him to Pharaoh and had sent him to Aaron so that he might call Pharaoh to Allah. Their mother came out 49/b, crying aloud, and said, “Pharaoh is seeking you in order to kill you. If you go to him, he will kill you both.” But Moses was not deterred by what she said. The two of them went by night to Pharaoh’s gate and knocked on the door. The gatekeepers were alarmed and said, “Who is at the door?”
It is also related that the gatekeeper looked out at them and asked, “Who are you two?” Moses replied, “I am a messenger of the Lord of all worlds.” The gatekeeper then went to Pharaoh and said, “There is a madman at the gate claiming that he is a messenger of the Lord of all worlds.” So they were left until morning, after which Pharaoh summoned them both.
It is also related that they both set out for Pharaoh, but for an entire year they were not granted permission to enter before him. Then the gatekeeper went in and said to Pharaoh, “There is a man here claiming to be a messenger of the Lord of all worlds.” Pharaoh said, “Allow him in, so that perhaps we may laugh at him.” They entered before him and delivered Allah’s message. Pharaoh recognized Moses, for he had been raised in Pharaoh’s household.
“He said, ‘Did we not raise you among us as a child, and did you not remain among us for years of your life? (18) Then you committed the deed that you committed, and you were one of the ungrateful.’ (19)
