who have followed Muhammad from among our clients and lowly people.” Allah, exalted is He, then said to these believers: “Will you be patient?” That is, patient in this condition of poverty, hardship, and harm.

“And your Lord is All-Seeing”: He sees who remains patient and who loses heart.

Ahmad ibn Abd Allah al-Salihi informed us; Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan informed us; Abu al-Abbas al-Asamm informed us; Zakariyya ibn Yahya al-Marwazi related to us; Sufyan ibn Uyaynah related to us, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-Araj, from Abu Hurayrah, who traced it back to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said: “When one of you looks at someone who has been favored over him in wealth and physical condition, let him look at one who is below him in wealth and physical condition.” (1)

الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوا مُحَمَّدًا مِنْ مَوَالِينَا وَأَرَاذِلِنَا، فَقَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لِهَؤُلَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ: ﴿أَتَصْبِرُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي عَلَى هَذِهِ الْحَالَةِ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ وَالشِّدَّةِ وَالْأَذَى. ﴿وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ بَصِيرًا﴾ بِمَنْ صَبَرَ وَبِمَنْ جَزِعَ. أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ يُبَلِّغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ: "إِذَا نَظَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى مَنْ فُضِّلَ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْجِسْمِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى مَنْ دُونَهُ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْجِسْمِ" (١) .
