“When the children among you reach puberty, let them ask permission, as those before them have asked permission. Thus Allah makes His signs clear to you; and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.” (59)

Allah the Exalted says: “When the children among you reach puberty,” that is, the onset of puberty. What is meant is the free children who have reached maturity. “Let them ask permission,” that is, they must seek permission to enter upon you at all times, “as those before them”—the free adults—“have asked permission.”
