“So Exalted is Allah, the True King. There is no god but Him, Lord of the Noble Throne. Whoever calls upon another god alongside Allah, for which he has no proof, his reckoning rests only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not prosper. And say, ‘My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of those who show mercy.’” (116–118)
Allah then declared Himself far above what the polytheists ascribe to Him, saying—exalted is His mention: “So Exalted is Allah, the True King. There is no god but Him, Lord of the Noble Throne”—that is, the beautiful throne. It is also said that it means: the elevated throne.
“Whoever calls upon another god alongside Allah, for which he has no proof”—that is, no evidence or clear proof, for there can be no proof for the claim of associating partners with Allah—“his reckoning”—that is, his recompense—“rests only with his Lord,” who will requite him for his deeds, as He, exalted is He, says: “Then surely upon Us is their reckoning” (al-Ghashiyah 88:26). “Indeed, the disbelievers will not prosper”: whoever denies and rejects the truth will not attain felicity.
“And say, ‘My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of those who show mercy.’”
