with their blood as an offering to Allah. So Allah revealed this verse: “Neither their meat nor their blood reaches Allah.” Ya‘qub recited both verbs as tanālu and tanāluhu, with the feminine prefix tā’, whereas the majority recited them with the masculine prefix yā’.
Muqatil said: Neither their meat nor their blood is raised to Allah, “but what reaches Him from you is piety”—rather, righteous deeds and piety are raised to Him from you. Sincerity is that by which the Countenance of Allah is sought.
“Thus He has subjected them to you”—that is, the sacrificial camels—“so that you may glorify Allah for having guided you”: He has directed you to the rites of His religion and the rituals of His pilgrimage. This is by saying: “Allah is Most Great for having guided us, and all praise belongs to Allah for the trials He has given us and the blessings He has bestowed upon us.”
“And give glad tidings to those who do good.” Ibn Abbas said: that is, those who affirm Allah’s oneness.
“Indeed, Allah defends those who believe. Indeed, Allah does not love any treacherous ingrate. (38)”
