“And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command, and We inspired them to do good deeds, establish the prayer, and give zakah; and they were worshippers of Us.” (73)

“And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift.” Mujahid and Ata said: An additional gift means a bestowal; both of them were among Allah’s gifts, that is, a gift. Al-Hasan and al-Dahhak said: It means a bounty. It is reported from Ibn Abbas, Ubayy ibn Kab, Abu Zayd, and Qatadah—may Allah be pleased with them—that the additional gift was Jacob, because Allah gave Abraham Isaac in response to his supplication, when he said: “Grant me a child from among the righteous.” (al-Saffat: 100) And He added Jacob, the grandson (1).
