He will say, “My Lord, why have You raised me blind when I had been able to see?”—whether able to see with his eyes or able to perceive the proof.
He will say, “Just as Our signs came to you and you forgot them, so today you will be forgotten.” (126) “Just as”—that is, just as “Our signs came to you and you forgot them,” abandoning and turning away from them—“so today you will be forgotten”: you will be left in the Fire. Qatadah said: “They will be forgotten as far as all good is concerned, but they will not be forgotten when it comes to punishment.”
“And thus We recompense whoever transgresses and does not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.” (127) “And thus”—that is, just as We recompensed the one who turned away from the Quran, so too “We recompense whoever transgresses,” by associating partners with Allah.
