“Whoever Allah guides is rightly guided; but whoever He leaves astray, you will never find for them protectors besides Him. On the Day of Resurrection, We shall gather them face down, blind, dumb, and deaf. Their abode will be Hell; whenever its flames subside, We shall intensify for them the blaze.” (97)
The Exalted says: “Nothing prevented people from believing when guidance came to them except that they said,” out of ignorance on their part, “Has Allah sent a human being as a messenger?” That is, the disbelievers used to say, “We will not believe you because you are a human being. Why did Allah not send down an angel to us?” Allah Most High answered them:
“Say, ‘Had there been angels on earth, walking about in peace and security—settled there as residents—We would surely have sent down to them an angel from heaven as a messenger,’” one of their own kind, for the heart is more inclined to its own kind than to what is unlike it.
“Say, ‘Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you,’” that I am Allah’s Messenger to you, “for indeed, He is fully aware of His servants and sees them all.”
214/a The Exalted says: “Whoever Allah guides is rightly guided; but whoever He leaves astray, you will never find for them protectors besides Him”—to guide them—“and on the Day of Resurrection We shall gather them face down.”
Ahmad ibn Abd Allah al-Salihi informed us; al-Hasan ibn Shuja al-Sufi, known as Ibn al-Mawsili, informed us; Abu Bakr ibn al-Haytham informed us; Jafar ibn Muhammad al-Saigh narrated to us; Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Sufyan narrated from Qatada, from Anas, that a man said, “O Messenger of Allah, how will the disbeliever be gathered face down on the Day of Resurrection?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Surely, the One who made him walk on his two feet is able to make him walk on his face.” (2)
It is also related in the hadith: “They will shield themselves with their faces from every rise in the ground and every thorn.” (3) “Blind, dumb, and deaf.”
