The scholars of Kufa and Ya'qub recited “and they turned [others] away” with the letter ṣād vowelled with ḍammah in both this passage and in Surah Ghafir; the others recited it with fatḥah, in light of His saying, “Indeed, those who disbelieve and turn [people] away from the way of Allah” (al-Hajj 22:25), and His saying, “Those who disbelieve and turn [people] away from the way of Allah” (al-Nahl 16:88 and elsewhere).
“Whoever Allah leaves astray” by forsaking him, “has no guide.”
“They will have punishment in the life of this world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe; and they will have no protector against Allah.” (34)
قَرَأَ أَهْلُ الْكُوفَةِ وَيَعْقُوبُ ﴿وَصُدُّوا﴾ وَفِي حم الْمُؤْمِنِ ﴿وَصُدَّ﴾ بِضَمِّ الصَّادِ فِيهِمَا، وَقَرَأَ الْآخَرُونَ بِالْفَتْحِ لِقَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَيَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ﴾ (الْحَجُّ -٢٥) ، وَقَوْلُهُ ﴿الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ﴾ (النَّحْلُ -٨٨ وَغَيْرُهَا) .
﴿وَمَنْ يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ﴾ بِخُذْلَانِهِ إِيَّاهُ، ﴿فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ هَادٍ﴾ .
﴿لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَشَقُّ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ وَاقٍ (٣٤) ﴾ .
