It is also said that this was spoken by the witness to Joseph and Ra'il.
By his words, “And seek forgiveness for your sin,” he meant: Ask your husband not to punish you and to pardon you. “Indeed, you are among the guilty”—among those who commit sin: you sought to seduce a young man, betrayed your husband, and then, when he steadfastly resisted, you lied against him.
He said, “among the guilty,” rather than “among the guilty women,” because he did not intend to speak specifically of women; rather, he meant whoever commits such an act. Its implied sense is: among the guilty people. This is like Allah’s saying: “And she was among the devoutly obedient.” (Al-Tahrim 12) This is clarified by His saying: “Indeed, she was from a people who disbelieved.” (Al-Naml 43)
“And women in the city said, ‘The wife of al-Aziz is seeking to seduce her servant. He has captivated her with love. Indeed, we see her to be in clear error.’ (30)”
