Abu Sa'id Abdullah ibn Ahmad al-Tahiri informed us; my grandfather, Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Bazzar, informed us; Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariyya al-Adhafiri informed us; Ishaq ibn Ibrahim al-Dabari informed us; Abd al-Razzaq informed us; Ma'mar narrated to us from Ayyub, from Ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Aslam, Ghifar, and a part of Juhaynah and Muzaynah are better in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection than Tamim, Asad ibn Khuzaymah, Hawazin, and Ghatafan.” (1)
“And they regard what they spend as means of drawing near to Allah.” The word qurbat is the plural of qurbah; that is, he seeks nearness to Allah Most High. “And the Messenger’s prayers,” meaning, his supplication and his seeking forgiveness. Ata said: They desire the supplication of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
“Indeed, it is a means of nearness for them.” Nafi', in the transmission of Warsh, recited qurbatun with the r pronounced with a dammah, whereas the remaining reciters pronounced it without a vowel. “Allah will admit them into His mercy,” that is, into His Paradise. “Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
