(1) Reported by al-Tirmidhi in The Book of Faith, chapter: “What Has Been Related Regarding the Sanctity of Prayer,” 7:366, where he said: “This hadith is hasan gharib (fair and uncommon).” He also reported it in his commentary on Surah al-Tawbah, 8:490, where he said: “Hasan gharib.” It was also reported by Ibn Majah in The Book of Mosques, chapter: “Remaining in Mosques and Awaiting the Prayer,” no. 802, 1:263; and by al-Darimi in The Book of Prayer, chapter: “Maintaining the Prayers,” 1:222. Ibn Hibban authenticated it in Mawarid al-Zam'an, p. 99, as did al-Hakim, 1:212, 2:232. Al-Dhahabi criticized this, saying: “Daraj has many objectionable narrations.” Imam Ahmad also reported it in al-Musnad, 3:68, 76. Al-Albani deemed it weak in his annotations to al-Mishkat, 1:244, and in Silsilat al-Da'ifah, 4:178. (2) Reported by al-Bukhari in The Book of Congregational Prayer, chapter: “The Virtue of One Who Goes to or Returns from the Mosque,” 2:148; by Muslim in The Book of Mosques, chapter: “Walking to Prayer Erases Sins,” no. 669, 1:463; and by the author in Sharh al-Sunnah, 2:352. (3) Reported by al-Bukhari in The Book of Prayer, chapter: “One Who Builds a Mosque,” 1:544; and by Muslim in The Book of Mosques, chapter: “The Virtue of Building Mosques,” no. 533, 1:378, with similar wording.
