“But Allah willed to establish the truth by His words”: that is, to make it manifest and exalt it, by commanding you to fight. It was also said: by His promises (1), which had already preceded concerning the manifestation and strengthening of the religion. “And to cut off the remnant of the disbelievers”: that is, to eradicate them so that none of them remained—meaning the disbelievers among the Arabs.
“So that He might establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even though the criminals detest it.” (8)
(1) In manuscript A: “with his enmity.”
