Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar al-Rayani related to us; Humayd ibn Zanjawayh related to us; Muhammad ibn Yusuf related to us; al-Awza‘i related from al-Walid ibn Hisham, from Ma‘dan, who said: I asked Thawban, the freedman of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying, “Tell me a hadith through which Allah may benefit me.” He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “No servant prostrates to Allah once except that Allah raises him one degree thereby and removes from him one sin thereby.” (1)
(1) Reported by Ibn Majah in al-Iqamah, chapter: What has been narrated concerning frequent prostration, no. 1423, 1:457; and by Imam Ahmad in al-Musnad, 5:276, 280. It was also reported by Muslim in al-Salah, chapter: The virtue of prostration and encouragement to perform it frequently, no. 488, with the wording: “Perform abundant prostration to Allah, for you do not prostrate to Allah once except that He raises you...”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ الرَّيَّانِيُّ، ثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زَنْجَوَيْهِ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، ثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ مَعْدَانَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَلْتُ: حَدَّثَنِي حَدِيثًا يَنْفَعُنِي اللَّهُ بِهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: "مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلَّا رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا سَيِّئَةً" (١) .
