“So We took retribution from them and drowned them in the sea”—that is, the sea—“because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them”: that is, heedless of the punishment before it befell them. It was also said that it means: turning away from Our signs.

“And We caused the people who had been oppressed to inherit the eastern and western regions of the land which We had blessed. And the good word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their patience. And We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people had been making and what they had been building.” (137)
