when the people of the A‘raf say to the people of the Fire what they have said, the people of the Fire will say to them, “If those people enter Paradise while you have not entered it…” They will taunt them with this and swear that they too will enter the Fire. Then the angels who had held the people of the A‘raf at the Sirat will say to the people of the Fire, “Are these”—meaning, the people of the A‘raf—“the ones concerning whom you, people of the Fire, swore that Allah would never grant them mercy?” Then the angels will say to the people of the A‘raf, “Enter Paradise: no fear shall be upon you, nor shall you grieve.” So they will enter Paradise.
“And the people of the Fire will call out to the people of Paradise, ‘Pour upon us some water, or some of what Allah has provided for you.’ They will say, ‘Indeed, Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers’ (50)—those who took their religion as amusement and play, and whom the life of this world deceived. So today We will forget them, just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and as they used to reject Our signs.” (51)
