- Abu Bakr ‘Abd Allah narrated to us: Ishaq ibn Isma‘il related to us; ‘Ubayd Allah al-Ashja‘i, from Abu ‘Umar—an elder of Khurasan—reported that Muqatil ibn Hayyan said, “Indeed, prolonged contemplation of wisdom fertilizes the intellect.”
٤٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُمَرَ، شَيْخٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ خُرَاسَانَ، قَالَ: قَالَ مُقَاتِلَ بْنَ حَيَّانَ: «إِنَّ فِي طُولِ النَّظَرِ فِي الْحِكْمَةِ تَلْقِيحًا لِلْعَقْلِ»
