27 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us. He said: Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā al-Shaybānī reported to us, from one of his teachers, who said: An angel came to Adam—peace be upon him—and said, “I have brought you intellect, religion, and knowledge; choose whichever of them you wish.” So he chose intellect, and then said to religion and knowledge, “Ascend.” They replied, “We have been commanded not to part from intellect.”
