6 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Abu Jaʿfar al-Qurashi recited to me:
[al-Baḥr al-Kāmil]
The son of Adam’s lineage is but his deeds—
so measure your lineage by what you do.
The son of Adam’s prestige lies in his wealth;
if the wealth is wholesome, wholesome too is the prestige.
The son of Adam’s adornment is his mind,
and the mind’s adornment is refined courtesy.
٦ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: أَنْشَدَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ: «
[الْبَحْر الْكَامِل]
نَسَبُ ابْنِ آدَمَ فِعْلُهُ … فَانْظُرْ لِنَفْسِكَ فِي النَّسَبْ
حَسَبَ ابْنُ آدَمَ مَالُهُ … إِنْ طَابَ طَابَ لَهُ الْحَسَبْ
زَيْنُ ابْنِ آدَمَ عَقْلُهُ … وَالْعَقْلُ زِينَتُهُ الْأَدَبْ»
