Al-'Aql wa-FadluhIbn Abi al-Dunya

78 – Abu Bakr narrated to us; Yusuf ibn Musa passed it on, Abu ʿUthman related, from Sahl ibn Shuʿayb, from Qanan al-Nahmi, from Jaʿd ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Hamdani, that al-Husayn ibn ʿAli (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him:

“O Juʿayd, people are four kinds: some have khalaq (a share of fortune) but no khuluq (moral character); some have khuluq but no khalaq; some have neither khuluq nor khalaq, and they are the worst of people; and some possess both khuluq and khalaq, and they are the best of people.”
