[1036] Chapter: A clarification of the creed of al-Shaʿrawi—may Allah have mercy on him—and a discussion of the exaltedness of Allah Most High, whether the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—was created from light, and whether he is the first of creation.

Intervention: …Those who enjoy listening to Shaykh al-Shaʿrawi know that he appears on television very often. We would like some critique, or at least to hear certain reservations… In other words, we do have some criticisms of Shaykh al-Shaʿrawi, so if you would kindly clarify some of them.

Shaykh: What we know about him is that he is a later-day Ashʿari. I wonder whether the brother has any prior knowledge of the Ashʿaris and of the later theologians who diverged from what the early generations were upon or not. I do not know, for this is my very first meeting with him, and I would like to find out what information he already has.
