34 – (good) On the authority of Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,
“Whenever one of you rises from his bed and later returns to it, let him dust it off with the edge of his garment three times, for he does not know what may have settled on it after he left.
When he lies down, let him say:
Bismika Rabbī waḍaʿtu janbī wa bika arfaʿuh (In Your Name, my Lord, I lay down my side and by You I raise it. If You take my soul, then have mercy on it, and if You release it, then guard it in the manner You guard Your righteous servants).
In another wording he said:
When one of you awakes, let him say: Al-ḥamdu lillāh alladhī ʿāfānī fī jasadī, wa radda ʿalayya rūḥī, wa adhina lī bidhikrīh (Praise be to Allah who has granted soundness to my body, returned my soul to me, and allowed me to remember Him). [77]
