204 – (Sound)

Abu Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—also reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“When any one of you sneezes, let him say, ‘al-ḥamdu li-llāh (praise be to Allah).’ Then let his brother or companion respond, ‘yarḥamuka Allah (may Allah have mercy on you).’ If the latter says, ‘yarḥamuka Allah,’ let the sneezer reply, ‘yahdīkum Allah wa yuṣliḥ bālakum (may Allah guide you and set your affairs right).’

In another wording recorded by Abu Dāwūd: ‘al-ḥamdu li-llāh ʿalā kulli ḥāl (praise be to Allah in every circumstance).’
