144 – (Hasan)
On the authority of ʿAli ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him):
A mukātib—a slave who had contracted to purchase his freedom—came to him and said, “I have become unable to meet the terms of my contract, so help me.” ʿAli replied, “Shall I not teach you some words the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me? Were you to owe a debt the size of Mount Ṣīr, Allah would settle it for you. Say:
‘O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) against Your unlawful, and enrich me by Your bounty so that I need no one besides You.’”
