13 – (Weak) Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he once entered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon a woman who had some date-stones or pebbles in front of her, using them for tasbīḥ (glorifying Allah). He said to her, “Shall I not tell you something easier for you than this—or even better?” He then said:
“subḥān Allāh ʿadada mā khalaqa fī as-samāʾ (Glory be to Allah, as numerous as what He has created in the heavens);
subḥān Allāh ʿadada mā khalaqa fī al-arḍ (Glory be to Allah, as numerous as what He has created on the earth);
subḥān Allāh ʿadada mā bayna dhālik (Glory be to Allah, as numerous as what lies between the two);
subḥān Allāh ʿadada mā huwa khāliq (Glory be to Allah, as numerous as what He will yet create);
Allāhu akbar mithla dhālik (Allah is greater, the same number of times);
al-ḥamdu lillāh mithla dhālik (praise belongs to Allah, the same number of times);
lā ilāha illā Allāh mithla dhālik (there is no deity but Allah, the same number of times);
and lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh mithla dhālik (there is neither might nor power except with Allah, the same number of times).” ⦗64⦘
