110 – (Sound) Abu Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—reported:
The destitute Emigrants came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, “The people of wealth have taken away the highest ranks and lasting bliss: they pray as we pray and fast as we fast, yet they possess surplus wealth with which they perform ḥajj and ʿumrah, strive in Allah’s cause, and give charity.”
He replied, “Shall I not teach you something through which you will catch up with those who have preceded you, outstrip those who come after you, and by which no one will excel you except one who does the same as you do?”
They said, “Indeed, O Messenger of Allah!”
He said, “After every prayer glorify Allah, praise Him, and magnify Him thirty-three times.”
Abu Ṣāliḥ added, “One says, ‘subḥān Allāh (Glory be to Allah), al-ḥamdu lillāh (Praise be to Allah), Allāhu akbar (Allah is the Greatest),’ until each of them has been said thirty-three times.”
