In manuscript B the following is added: “May Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family and companions, and grant peace. The shaykh, the imam, the erudite scholar, Shaykh of the hadith specialists, leader of the hadith memorizers and meticulous scholars, the unique man of his time, Zayn al-Din—may Allah prolong his life—said.” In manuscript J there is the extra phrase: “Rabbi yassir wa la tuʿassir” (My Lord, facilitate and do not make it difficult). In manuscript D one finds the addition: “May Allah bless our master Muhammad and all his family.” In manuscript Hāʾ the addition reads: “Rabbana ātinā min ladunka raḥma wahayyiʾ lanā min amrinā rashadā. The shaykh, the imam, the scholar, the erudite authority who travelled in quest of knowledge, Shaykh al-Islam, the emblem of notables, Shihab al-Millah wa al-Din, Abu al-Fadl Ahmad ibn ʿAli ibn Muhammad al-ʿAsqalani, famous as Ibn Hajar—may Allah extend his life and return to the Muslims the benefit of his blessing. Amin.” In manuscript W the following is added: “May Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family and companions, and grant peace. The shaykh, the erudite scholar who travelled for knowledge, Shaykh al-Islam, the emblem of notables, Shihab al-Din Abu al-Fadl Ahmad ibn ʿAli ibn Muhammad al-ʿAsqalani, famous as Ibn Hajar al-Shafiʿi—may Allah prolong his life and return to the Muslims the benefit of his blessing.” (A) A blank space in the base manuscript. In manuscript Z an insertion reads: “Rabbi yassir. The shaykh, the imam, the scholar, the erudite authority who travelled for knowledge, Shaykh al-Islam, the emblem of notables, Shihab al-Millah wa al-Din, Abu al-Fadl Ahmad ibn ʿAli ibn Muhammad al-ʿAsqalani, famous as Ibn Hajar—may Allah prolong his life and return to the Muslims the benefit of his blessing. Amin.” Manuscript Ḥ contains the additional phrase: “May Allah bless our master Muhammad and his family, and grant peace.” Manuscript Ṭāʾ adds: “May Allah bless our master Muhammad abundantly and grant much peace. The shaykh, the imam, the scholar, the erudite authority, the ḥāfiẓ of his age, the peerless of his era, the traveller of the times, singled out by the care of the All-Merciful, Shaykh al-Islam, Commander of the Believers in hadith, the heir of the salaf and the quintessence of the khalaf, Chief Judge, Shihab al-Millah wa al-Din, Abu al-Fadl Ahmad, son of the virtuous shaykh Abu al-Hasan ʿAli al-ʿAsqalani al-Shafiʿi, known as Ibn Hajar—may Allah perpetuate his shade, increase his felicity in this world and the next, and grant him his hopes in both. Amin.” In manuscript Y the scribe added: “Rabbi tammim bi-khayr ya Karim” (My Lord, complete it well, O Most Generous).
